Stages of Hair Growth Plus How to Maintain Hair Health in Every Stage

For strong, colourful hair, hair health must be maintained throughout each stage of growth. Each stage of hair growth has advice for maintaining hair health:

1. Anagen Phase

When hair follicles are constantly making new hair, this is called the active growth phase.

To promote hair growth, eat a balanced diet with vitamins A, C, D, E, biotin, iron, and zinc. To cleanse and moisturise the scalp and hair, use a gentle shampoo and conditioner for your hair type.

Avoid heat styling, chemical treatments, and tight hairstyles that destroy hair follicles. To avoid hair shaft damage, clip split ends regularly.

2. Catagen Phase

This is the time where hair growth slows down and hair follicles get ready to rest.

Maintain your hair and scalp with a healthy diet and hair care routine. Use a wide-tooth comb or gentle brush to untangle hair without breaking. Reduce follicular stress by avoiding hair accessories and styles that tug on the hair and scalp.

3. Telogen Phase

During this time, hair follicles are dormant and hair growth stops for a while.

Use a light shampoo and minimise product buildup to maintain a healthy scalp. Regular scalp massage improves blood circulation and hair follicle health.

When outdoors, use hats or use UV-protective creams to protect your hair. Avoid overbrushing or manipulating hair during this phase to avoid breakage.

4. Exogen Phase

This is the part where old hair falls out to make room for new hair to grow.

To reduce shedding hair breakage, style and detangle gently. To reduce hair loss and promote growth, eat a nutritious diet and remain hydrated.

To strengthen hair follicles and minimise shedding, try a scalp treatment or hair mask with keratin, collagen, or peptides. Stress can cause hair loss, so reduce it with meditation, yoga, or deep breathing.
