5 Acupressure Points for Inducing Labor

Acupressure, a traditional Chinese practice, stimulates biological functions by applying pressure to precise areas. Here are five acupressure areas that may induce labor, but see a doctor first:

1. Hoku Point (LI4)

This point is in the web between the thumb and index finger. Pressing on it is thought to start contractions and ease the pain of labor.

2. Spleen 6 (SP6)

SP6 is about three finger-widths above the inner ankle bone. Massaging it is thought to strengthen the uterus and speed up labor.

3. Bladder 60 (BL60):

BL60 is on the outside of the foot, behind the ankle bone. Putting pressure on it may help cause cramps and ease pain.

4. Sacral Points

In the lower back, just above the tailbone, are the sacral points. It is thought that massage or pressure in this area will help the uterus tighten.

5. Perineal Points

Between the anus and the vagina are these points. It is thought that light rubbing or pressure in this area can help soften the cervix and get the body ready for labor.
